Drug / Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers – A Summary Of Purpose And Results
Drug / Alcohol Rehab Centers are waiting for your loved one to arrive at their doors and help them end their drug addiction. But what if you don’t send them there to get help?
Are you still waiting for your loved one to ‘find their bottom’? Or they haven’t found a reason to stop using drugs, yet? Perhaps nothing seems to be working for them; they’ve been to rehab so many times.
That Drug Rehab Program Could Be The Problem - You May Be Trying To Fix The Wrong Problem
You went to an addictions specialist. They told you to wait while your loved one is killing themselves or changed their minds about a course of action or still didn’t fix your problem. What would you think about a specialist who did that?
Hopefully, you wouldn’t take their advice and never return.
What if 95% of the drug rehab specialists you went to couldn’t solve the problem and even blamed you or worse, told you drug rehab could never really solve the problem, only treat it. Would you continue coming back?
Traditional Drug Rehab Programs Don’t Work 80% Of The Time
Beliefs, opinions and best guesses are being called ‘Science’ and ‘Best Practices’ in the detox and rehab industry.
These rehab programs, called the medical or moral or psycho social model simply don’t perform to the level I expect of a program. Rehab programs should work 80% of the time, right? So . . .
What Should An Effective Drug Rehab Program Consist Of?
Physical, mental and emotional aspects of life must be included into effective drug rehab programs. By fully helping each part of life recover, the entire person recovers. Building up the person to handle life more effectively is the true method of recovery.
People are best understood by considering them in different parts. They have bodies and physical situations – they need food, nutrients, exercise, safety.
People have minds that compute amazing series of calculations instantly, if they work without being disrupted by drugs and pain. Minds need true information and correct methods of resolving any and all of life’s challenges.
Individuals have emotions or spiritual needs that connect them to the living community. People need to feel they belong and cared for. They succeed to the degree they are living in agreement with a community of good people.
Traditional Drug Rehab Center = Disease Focus
The Medical Model or Disease Model plus the moral model is the source of some basically wrong ideas. While some individuals have been helped using these models, the models are not working for the majority of people who try them.
The biggest problem in the drug and alcohol addiction field is false information generated by people who think they know how to cure addiction. They’d be right if they could improve their successes a little. Right now these same ‘experts’ fail 3 out of 4 people who come looking for help; some fail 9 out of 10 clients.
The drug and alcohol abuse problem is so big, failure won’t even put poorly performing rehabs out of business. There is always the next drug abuser, out of control and seeking help. 95% of the rehab programs are based on ideas that simply don’t result in a cured addict. These same methods are so bad that addiction has been called ‘incurable’ by the psychiatric field.
The 5 Biggest Lies Spread By The Traditional Drug Rehab Industry
- Drug Addiction is a re-occurring disease that the addict has little or no control over
- Drug Addiction is a medical/counseling problem that more drugs and lots of counseling appointments one day will fix, maybe
- The drug addict is not responsible for their actions – ‘Addicted’ defense
- Drugs are necessary to manage addiction – Psychiatric sales pitch
- Drug addicts are self medicating, but taking the wrong drugs, our drugs are better - Dual diagnosis double talk
The very heart of the medical/disease model has a flaw so great that people have simply ignored its existence. They believe genes, or structure, creates addiction. And addiction can’t be cured, as you have the same genes after rehab, right?
When 80% or more of their clients are relapsing, you may want to consider that their IDEAS and THEORIES aren’t working right. I don’t care how many times you work a wrong plan; it’s not going to work.
The basic lie pushed onto society is that structure monitors function. ie one’s genes determine one’s success, behavior, etc. That is a HUGE LIE.
How do scientists who research interpret results of their studies? The answer depends on who is paying for the study. When the FDA or Health Canada is the beneficiary, watch out. Drug sales = more jobs at Health Canada and more influence over that department.
The cold truth is that creating drug dependence is a method of enslaving mass numbers of good people through drugs. Doctors, pharmacists, the FDA, Health Canada, WHO, drug dealers now control your life through controlling the distribution and costs of drugs.
True Science Aligns With Values
Instead, consider Science results which make one more healthy and self sufficient without drugs / medications. True values will and should reflect healthy, happy drug-free people.
Science = Truth. Success and health follow foundations of true science.
Function Monitors Structure
‘The cells operations are primarily molded by its interaction with the environment not its genetic code.” (Ref: The Biology of Belief, Bruce Lipton, Ph.D)
“The addict has been found not to want to be an addict, but is driven by pain and environmental hopelessness . . As soon as an addict can feel healthier and more competent mentally and physically without drugs than he does on drugs, he ceases to require drugs.” (Ref. Narconon, An Overview of Results, quote, L. Ron Hubbard(r))
The Social Educational Model is achieving 40% to 90% long term successes with clients, depending on the program. (Ref. Baldwin Research Institute; University of Baja California). The Social Educational Model is achieving an average of 70% success when combined with A Bio-physical Program. (Ref. Summary of Evaluations of The Narconon® Program over the Last 30 Years)
Social Learning/Educational
This model considers that many individuals are not hopelessly affected by their environments or are being hard done by from a poor environment in the past, as in the psycho / social / behavioral model.
The Social Learning model considers that a number of people requiring drug and alcohol rehab are relapsing due to life skills never applied or learned or abilities never developed or used. Some people clearly lose touch with their abilities while living the life of addiction.
If people are being taught and encouraged to deal more effectively with life issues, learn and develop new skills, change one’s environment or simply learn the skills of being more honest and truthful in their relationships, the Social learning model is being used.
This method would consider a person as a student not an addict. Habits are often unthinkingly done. Greater awareness can be learned and new skills can be developed to overcome these. The emphasis is on learning and new abilities, not merely addictive choices.
Biophysical:
The Bio-physical model stresses the physical health and recuperation of the person as a primary step and fundamental philosophy.
More centers seem to be acknowledging the biophysical model into their detox and rehab programs, though they have an array of approaches to fixing the problems.
The biophysical approach seeks to remedy or rehabilitate the person physically as a method of gaining recovery. This process requires some fairly skilled and trained practitioners who possess an in-depth understanding of natural detoxification, nutritional support, alternative methods of detoxification, etc.
Medical doctors are often consulted with but not usually required to administer biophysical detoxifications. The Biophysical approach also believes that a rehab program should be incorporated with it.
The biophysical approach also indicates that persons should be taken off of potentially addictive or mind altering drugs in the process of the physical rehab. Some centers are doing this very rapidly. Be aware of mere gestures toward biophysical / nutritional rehabilitation and actual intensive detoxification and nutritional therapy.
This model isn’t being used if the center has put the person on psychiatric or mood altering drugs or are using substitute drug therapy; most likely they are using the psycho / social or medical model and gesturing toward a biophysical approach. Note: vitamin supplements are not drugs
